Joyce Brandman, AFHU national board member and immediate past Western Region president, previously received an Honorary Fellowship from The Hebrew University. Joyce and her beloved late husband Saul (z’l) maintained a longstanding commitment to Hebrew University and the State of Israel. Joyce is a Governor of The Hebrew University’s International Board of Governors and fosters AFHU’s mission in diverse important ways. She is a driving force in the development of AFHU’s Western Region. A member of our Campaign Committee, Joyce participates wholeheartedly in our efforts to develop resources for cutting-edge research, faculty recruitment and other Hebrew University priorities.
Joyce is president of the Saul and Joyce Brandman Foundation, which provides funding to hundreds of medical, educational and Jewish communal causes and organizations. A hands-on philanthropic leader, Joyce epitomizes the ideal of volunteerism in the service of others. She travels to Guatemala annually with HELPS International, volunteers at Cedar Sinai Hospital, counseling women with breast cancer, and works side by side with health care professionals.
Joyce and Saul Brandman’s support for medical and scientific research at The Hebrew University has been extensive and visionary. The Brandman Foundation Chair in Cardiac and Pulmonary Diseases is facilitating life-saving work. The Brandman Laboratory building on the Edmond J. Safra Campus is a state-of-the-art teaching facility that also advances pioneering research. Concerned for Hebrew University students, Joyce has created scholarships and helped to spearhead successful scholarship fundraising events that benefit Hebrew University’s deserving students.
