Solar Energy. In a New Light.
Shining a light on sustainable energy
Converting light into energy, and at half the cost of silicon solar cells.
SOLRA, a solar cell technology startup from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem’s Yissum Technology Transfer Company, is revolutionizing solar energy with a third-generation solar cell. Developed by Prof. Lioz Etgar’s research group at Hebrew University, these advanced solar cells utilize thin film materials derived from perovskite, a crystalline substance with high light absorption efficiency. Unlike traditional silicon solar cells, SOLRA’s technology can convert both sunlight and artificial light into electrical power at half the cost. The self-powering cells, semi-transparent and made of organic materials, can be integrated into buildings as solar windows, expanding their practical applications beyond rooftop panels.
This innovation holds the potential to become the new standard for solar energy, contributing to the global effort to reduce carbon footprints and achieve net neutrality on an industrial scale.
