Dear Friends,

Like you, we are watching developments in Israel with deep concern. In light of the current war, we write to express our unwavering solidarity with our colleagues, students, and friends at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and across Israel.

We are profoundly grateful to President Prof. Tamir Sheafer and the University’s leadership for keeping the community informed and for acting swiftly to safeguard students and staff. As you will read in his message below, the University has moved into emergency mode, prioritizing safety, continuity, and support for those called to reserve duty and those in need of psychological care.

At moments like this—so close to Purim, a holiday that reminds us of resilience in the face of uncertainty, and whose story unfolds in ancient Persia—we are reminded of the strength of the Hebrew University community and of the vital importance of standing together. Our thoughts are with all who are sheltering, serving, grieving, or caring for loved ones.

American Friends of the Hebrew University remains in close contact with University leadership. We will continue to share updates as appropriate and to ensure that our community here can offer meaningful support during this challenging time.

With sincere thanks for your enduring friendship and solidarity,

American Friends of the Hebrew University
