Professor Yuval Shany is the former dean of the Hebrew University Faculty of Law. Specializing in international law, human rights and the laws of war, Professor Shany serves as the Hersch Lauterpacht Chair in International Law and as the Academic Director of the Minerva Center for Human Rights. In September 2012, he was chosen to be one of the 18 senior jurists to serve on the UN Human Rights Committee.

Professor Shany graduated cum laude with a Bachelor’s degree in Law from the Hebrew University in 1995. He obtained a Master’s degree in International Legal Studies from New York University in 1997 and a doctorate in International Law from the University of London in 2001.

In recent years, Professor Shany has been a visiting researcher at Harvard University, Amsterdam University and the Max Planck Institute in Heidelberg.  He has also been a visiting professor at the University of Sydney, Columbia University, Georgetown University and the University of Michigan.
