Getting the weather forecast right

Dr. Chaim Garfinkel is a weather forecaster. He specializes in seasonal weather forecasting by studying weather patterns at the earth’s surface that persist for a month or longer. The predictions that result from his work can be of huge value to weather sensitive industries such as electricity utilities, water resource planning, and agriculture.

Dr. Garfinkel joined the Hebrew University’s Fredy & Nadine Herrmann Earth Science Institute in 2013. He grew up in the United States, receiving his doctorate from the University of Washington. Dr. Garfinkel sites the large number of specialists in atmospheric sciences across the faculties of Hebrew University as a reason for coming here. “It sports a strong synergistic, collaborative atmosphere, which was one of the major factors in my decision to favor the Hebrew University as my academic home.”
