HONOREES
Drs. Eric and Melina Esrailian have been active in the Los Angeles, philanthropic, academic, and Armenian communities for decades. Eric is the chief of the Vatche and Tamar Manoukian Division of Digestive Diseases at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. He is also an Emmy-nominated producer, philanthropist, investor, and entrepreneur. Melina is a practicing dentist with a background in public health, and she is also a successful real estate investor. In 2017, UCLA designated Eric as one of its UCLA Optimists and notable alumni, leading faculty, visionary partners, and advanced scholars. The Esrailians have been closely involved in establishing The Promise Institute for Human Rights at the UCLA School of Law and The Promise Armenian Institute at UCLA—to formalize an organization at UCLA to protect Armenian scholarship, history, language, and culture. They were first introduced to the Hebrew University of Jerusalem by their dear friend Patty Glaser, and they have been honored to support the institution alongside Patty over the years. Jerusalem is the home to one of the oldest Armenian communities in the world, but the community is shrinking and under threat. The Esrailians look forward to working with American Friends of the Hebrew University to support, educate, and inspire leaders who will make the world a better place for Jews, Armenians, and all people in Jerusalem and beyond.
