Support Sam's mitzvah project!

Thank you for choosing to support my mitzvah project!

Your contribution supports student scholarships at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (HU), Israel’s premier university as well as its leading research institution.  HU is consistently ranked among the 100 leading universities in the world and number one among Israeli universities.

HU is home to 25,000 students. Its faculty and alumni have received numerous awards for excellence, including 8 Nobel Prizes in chemistry, physics, and economics. The university’s research projects represent 30% of all Israeli academic scientific research while Yissum, its tech transfer company, has helped turn critical scientific research into globally recognized applications. You may have heard about the drugs Exelon used to treat Alzheimer’s patients and Doxil for use in ovarian cancer.  Or perhaps you are familiar with Mobileye, the collision warning and driver safety system found in most automobiles today.  Or if you enjoy cherry tomatoes, maybe you are aware that HU agronomists created a variety with a particularly long and delicious shelf life.  All these products started in the labs and classrooms at the Hebrew University.

And did you know that Albert Einstein was one of HU’s founders? In the late 19th century, great thinkers came together to envision what a Hebrew university could look like. A university of the Jewish people. It was a thought, a dream, to establish an exceptional institution of higher learning in Israel – well before statehood was assured. Not only did Einstein advocate for the establishment of the university, but he also bequeathed all the rights to his research, documents, name, and likeness to HU, entrusting Israel—and the Hebrew University in particular–with his legacy.

Hebrew University has set as its goals the training of public, scientific, educational, and professional leadership; the preservation of and research into Jewish, cultural, spiritual, and intellectual traditions; and the expansion of the boundaries of knowledge for the benefit of all humanity.

As I [prepare for/celebrate] my bar/bat mitzvah, I am proud to support the next generation of student scholars in Israel.
