These are difficult days. Sirens, uncertainty, and a tense regional situation have once again disrupted life across Israel.

This week was meant to mark a historic milestone: the Hebrew University of Jerusalem’s Centennial. Months of planning went into a full schedule of commemorative and high-level events, all of which were canceled at the last moment due to the war.

HU’s Board of Governors was set to gather in Jerusalem for a special Centennial session. HU prepared to welcome alumni, confer honorary doctorates, and host milestone events across its campuses. These included a reenactment of its 1925 opening ceremony, followed by a concert with Miri Mesika and the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra; a Mega Alumni Event featuring Hatikva 6 and Avraham Tal in concert; and a Centennial Gala at the Tower of David with music by Shlomi Shaban and artistic projections on the Old City walls. Even a planned event with the President of the State of Israel, Isaac Herzog, had to be called off.

And yet, the mission continues.

Even in times like these, the Hebrew University stands as a symbol of resilience and purpose. Research doesn’t pause. Education doesn’t wait. Innovation doesn’t stop.

Earlier this month, HU was proud to be recognized in the Center for World University Rankings, CWUR, as one of the few Israeli institutions to climb in global standing, moving up to 65th place in the world. To read more, click here.
