
April 7, 2025 – In honor of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem’s centennial, the University’s senior leadership and prominent alumni opened trading on Sunday, April 6, at the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange (TASE), underscoring a century of academic excellence and impactful contributions to Israel’s economy and society.
The ceremonial event was led by Prof. Eugene Kandel, Chairman of the TASE Board of Directors and Professor Emeritus in the Hebrew University’s Department of Finance and Department of Economics. Representing the Hebrew University in the opening ceremony were:
- Prof. Asher Cohen, President of the Hebrew University
 - Prof. Tamir Sheafer, Rector of the University
 - Yishai Frankel, CEO of the University
 - Prof. Orly Sade, Dean of the School of Business Administration
 
They were joined by distinguished alumni and business leaders, symbolizing the University’s deep-rooted connection with Israel’s financial and business communities.
Prof. Asher Cohen, President of the Hebrew University, remarked:
“Today’s ceremony highlights the strong bond between academia, industry, and the Israeli economy. Since its founding, the Hebrew University has been a catalyst for innovation, technology, and economic growth. Our graduates and research have left a lasting impact on both Israeli and global markets. Prof. Eugene Kandel, Chairman of TASE, shared:

Prof. Orly Sade, Dean of the School of Business Administration, added:
“The Hebrew University has always played a central role in shaping Israel’s economic landscape. Our researchers have contributed to policy-making, public service, and groundbreaking studies on the Israeli capital market. Personally, my doctoral research was based on unique data provided by the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange. Our alumni continue to drive change and progress. I am confident that our current students will write the next chapter in our country’s economic success. We deeply appreciate our ongoing collaboration with the TASE.”

Following the trading ceremony, roundtable discussions were held with approximately 50 students from the Hebrew University, representing the fields of Business Administration, Economics and Computer Science, and the MATAR program (Technology, Society and Networks Interfaces) at The Rachel and Selim Benin School of Engineering and Computer Science.
