Since relocating to Israel in 1994, Martin Gerstel has participated in the founding and has been the chairman of three life science companies (Compugen, Evogene and Itamar Medical), each of which is now publicly traded in Israel and the US. He is a member of the Board of Governors of the Hebrew University and the Weizmann Institute of Science and a frequent lecturer in the fields of corporate strategy and negotiations. Other recent positions in Israel have included director of Yissum, the technology licensing arm of Hebrew University, and advisor to the BIRD Foundation. Prior to relocating to Israel, he was co-chairman and CEO of ALZA Corporation, a U.S. pharmaceutical company that pioneered advanced drug delivery, which he helped found in 1968, and a director of, and/or consultant to, various public and private companies and a lecturer at Stanford Graduate School of Business. Mr. Gerstel holds a B.S. from Yale University and an MBA from Stanford University. He, his wife Shoshana, and son Gil reside in Jerusalem.
