Sheldon Hechtman,a financial advisor and first Vice President of Morgan Stanley Wealth Management, is the immediate past President of AFHU’s Southeast Region board. Deeply devoted to Israel’s well-being and to the Jewish community, Shelly has served on AFHU’s National Board of Directors, is a Governor of The Hebrew University’s International Board of Governors and serves on the Board of Trustees of the Harry S. Truman Institute for the Advancement of Peace. Shelly and his dynamic wife Ellen Klersfeld, a member of AFHU’s Southeast Region board and National Investment Committee, have been greatly instrumental in advancing AFHU’s mission.
Supportive of many aspects of Hebrew University’s work, Shelly and Ellen have fostered progress for the people of Israel and the global community. They have contributed to the Edmond and Lily Safra Center for Brain Sciences, the Lautenberg Center for Cancer and Immunology Research, and the Truman Institute, among other vital initiatives.
Shelly has been similarly active and effective in the United States on behalf of AFHU’s mission. Under Shelly’s leadership, the Southeast Region ALEF attendance grew to 300, creating a popular educational event in Florida. Throughout his tenure, Shelly devoted time and energy to building relationships in support of the university and to raising HU’s profile locally and nationally in the United States.
A resident of Delray Beach, Florida, Shelly established his career in broadcast media and direct response marketing. He subsequently developed a successful career in financial services. Both Shelly and Ellen are frequent visitors to Israel and the university. Ellen was honored by AFHU as a Leader of Distinction.
