The Chairman Emeritus of Jenner & Block LLP, Jerold Solovy (z”l) was one of the preeminent appellate and trial lawyers in the country.  In the wake of the Greylord Scandal that plagued the Cook County Courts in the 1980s,  the Chief Jerold (z"l) and Kathleen SolovyJudge of the Circuit Court appointed Jerry Solovy as Chairperson of a Special Commission to recommend needed reforms.

Jerry Solovy was regularly cited by The National Law Journal as one of the 100 most influential lawyers in America.  Among his additional honors were The American Lawyer’s Lifetime Achievement Award (2007) and the American Bar Association’s John Minor Wisdom Public Service and Professionalism Award (2005).  He also received numerous honors for his humanitarian and civic endeavors within the Jewish community.

Jerry Solovy was dedicated to The Hebrew University of Jerusalem and AFHU.   He served on the board of the university’s Harry S. Truman Research Institute for the Advancement of Peace, on the AFHU Midwest Regional President’s Advisory Committee and on AFHU’s national Board of Regents.  A distinguished AFHU Scopus Award laureate, Jerry was recognized in June of 2013 on the Trustees Wall at The Hebrew University.  His nephew, Alden Solovy, paid tribute to Jerry at the ceremony in Israel.
