Dr. Dafna ShahafDr. Dafna Shahaf aims to turn complex and extensive information into insight by analyzing massive amounts of data. She designs algorithms that help people understand the underlying structure of intricate topics. Her most recent work includes design of an algorithm that retrieves information and automatically creates a “metro map” of this information, connecting the dots between them by identifying structured storylines in the news, scientific documents and even advanced literature.

Dr. Shahaf joined the Benin School of Computer Science and Engineering in 2015, following postdoctoral fellowships at Microsoft Research, Washington and at Stanford University. She explains how the multidisciplinary nature of her research made Hebrew University an obvious choice: “As my research touches upon topics in social science and humanities, it was important for me to join an institute that is strong all-around.”
