Bari and Steve Good are champions of The Hebrew University of Jerusalem and are driving forces in AFHU’s Los Angeles Region and nationally. They are deeply committed to Israel and the Jewish people worldwide. In tribute to their philanthropic leadership and strong support of Hebrew University students on scholarship, On June 9, 2014, Steve and Bari will be recognized as Guardians on the Wall of Life during The Hebrew University’s 77th Board of Governors Meeting.
Steve Good is an esteemed member of AFHU’s national Board of Directors and is actively involved in the development of the Los Angeles Region’s planned giving campaign. A Certified Public Accountant and respected financial professional, Steve is a consultant to, and retired senior partner of, Cohn-Reznick LLC, formerly Good Swartz Brown & Berns, one of two law firms he founded. Steve is actively involved in business consulting and has extensive experience in acquisitions, merger transactions, and business valuations. As a founder and past chairman of CU Bancorp, he directed the bank’s solid market position. Steve brings his considerable insight and expertise to his service on the boards of several public companies. He also is a member of the boards of OSI Systems, KYE, KYN and Rexford Industrial.
An engaged leader within the Los Angeles community, Steve Good is the founding president of the Santa Monica Synagogue. He is a director and past president of The Guardians of the Los Angeles Jewish Home for the Aging and previously served as the Home’s Chairman of the Board and as Chairman of its Marilyn and Monty Hall Statesman’s Club. He also served on several of the Home’s committees. Steve is the founding director of the ALS Association, a member of the Chancellor’s Circle of UCLA and a trustee of the foundation that supports UCLA Health Services.
Steve Good received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of California, Los Angeles, where he also attended graduate school. He is an active member of the American Institute of Certified Accountants, the National Association of Accountants, the California Society of Certified Public Accountants and the Nevada State Board of Accountancy.
Bari Good is the former president of the National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW), Los Angeles section, and previously served as an NCJW volunteer, counselling women and working with children to overcome learning disabilities. She also worked in the NCJW thrift stores. Bari’s dedication to family, philanthropy and the Jewish community was instilled in her by her parents, Minnie and Julian Crystal (z”l), devoted volunteers with numerous charitable and religious organizations. Their values helped shape the cornerstone of Bari’s life.
Devoted to community service, Bari Good has shared her passion for painting with elementary school children, previously volunteering as an art teacher at Los Angeles schools without such a program. She has enjoyed the added pleasure of “volunteering” as much time as possible with granddaughters Olivia and Ella.
Married for nearly 46 years, Steve and Bari Good are the proud parents of son Brian and daughter Katherine, and have two granddaughters, Olivia and Ella.
