JOYCE BRANDMAN
Outgoing Regional President

The AFHU Western Region has been proud to have entrepreneur and lifelong philanthropist Joyce Brandman as Regional President since 2013. Under her leadership, the region has thrived and gained a stronger presence in the communiJoyce Brandmanty. Her  extraordinary support has helped AFHU immeasurably in its fundraising efforts to support The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Joyce and her beloved late husband Saul (z”l) maintained a longstanding commitment to Hebrew University and the State of Israel.  As president of the Saul and Joyce Brandman Foundation, Joyce has provided vital support to hundreds of medical, educational and Jewish communal causes and organizations. A hands-on philanthropist, Joyce epitomizes the ideal of volunteerism in the service of others. Her support for medical and scientific research at The Hebrew University has been extensive and visionary. Deeply committed to Hebrew University students, Joyce has helped to spearhead fundraising events in support of scholarships and contributed to the Scopus Student Village. Joyce is a previous recipient of a Hebrew University Honorary Fellowship and we take great pleasure in sharing the news that she will receive an Honorary Doctorate during Hebrew University’s 78th International Board of Governors meeting in June 2015.

 

BRINDELL GOTTLIEB
Incoming Regional President

Entrepreneur and former educator, Brindell Gottlieb has served with distinction on AFHU’s Western Region and national boards. Her work on behalf of AFHU and support for important causes at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem has been Brindell Gottliebextensive. A University Associate Governor, Benefactor and a recipient of an Honorary Fellowship from Hebrew University in 2012, Brindell has fostered cutting-edge research and faculty recruitment at the Edmond and Lily Safra Center for Brain Sciences.  Widely known as a gracious hostess, Brindell has led the way in generating scholarships for students at the University, opening her home for seven years to “The Bel Air Affaire,” the Region’s elegant fundraising event. Her generosity and personal warmth are unrivaled.  Her tireless efforts to foster the arts, education, and scientific research, in memory of her beloved late husband, Milton Gottlieb (z”l), have laid the groundwork for tremendous growth and achievement in Israel and across the United States.  She is also involved with the American Jewish Committee and The Jewish Federation, and serves on the board of the Los Angeles Opera and the Center Theater Group. An avid supporter of medical research and treatment, she has maintained longstanding involvement with Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, the UCLA Jules Stein Eye Institute and the Children’s Burn Foundation.


RENAE JACOBS-ANSON
Incoming Regional Vice President

A Hebrew University Guardian and Honorary Fellow, Renae Jacobs-Anson has been a champion of the University and a tireless AFHU supporter for more than a decade. The daughter of venerable HU supporters, Benita & Dr. Joseph Jacobs, Renae was deeply influRenae Jacobs-Ansonenced by her parents’ example and has perpetuated their values of leadership, service and philanthropy. Their vision continues to be carried out today by Renae and her husband David, along with their children Spencer and Ariel.  Renae serves on the University’s International Board of Governors, AFHU’s national and Western Region boards and proudly promotes AFHU’s mission. As the Regional Chair for the Student Scholarship Campaign, Renae spearheads one of the organization’s most vital priorities. Since 2008 she has co-chaired the region’s annual “Bel Air Affaire” with good friend Helen Jacobs-Lepor, helping to raise millions for scholarships. In addition to her AFHU leadership, Renae has worked to improve the education of children within LAUSD by establishing an award-winning mentoring program. A trained actor and singer, Renae’s career has  included extensive work as a voice-over artist for radio, television, instructional DVDs and animation.
