The National Scopus Award is the American Friends' highest recognition for humanitarian achievement.  Named for Mount Scopus, where The Hebrew University’s first cornerstones were laid in 1918, the Award has come to symbolize the University’s highest ideals.  It is awarded to individuals who demonstrate humanitarian concerns throughout their careers.  The Award, originally designed as a representation of Mount Scopus, now calls to mind the Mount Scopus campus of the Hebrew University, which sits like a crown atop Jerusalem – a fitting site for “The University of the Jewish People.”

On January 20th, 2008 Mary and Robert Montgomery, Jr. were honored with the Scopus Award in Palm Beach, Florida.

On December 12th, 2007 Morton & Norma Lee Funger, were honored with the Scopus Award in Washington, DC, at a gala.

On June 18th, 2007 Leo Melamed, head of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange was honored with the Scopus Award in Chicago, Illinois, at a gala featuring Carl Reiner as guest speaker.

In January of 2007 Barbara and Ira Eichner were honored with the Scopus Award in Palm Beach, Florida.

In December of 2006, Jamie & Frank McCourt in Los Angeles and Ambassador Stuart & Mrs. Wilma Bernstein in Washington DC became recipients of the Scopus Award.Of note: Former Vice President Al Gore was the distinguished keynote speaker at the McCourt Gala, and Former Secretary of State, General Colin L. Powell was awarded the Truman Peace Prize at the Bernstein Ceremony.
