The Rothberg International School at Hebrew University is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the One-Year academic program for North American students. This is an exciting milestone for a program that plays a crucial role in fostering Jewish continuity, inculcating students with a love of Israel and inspiring a lifelong interest in learning about Jewish history, culture and intellectual thought.
Close to five hundred American students from leading U.S. universities and colleges enrolled at the Rothberg International School during the 2004-05 academic year. This represents a marked increase over the past two years. Currently, more and more U.S. colleges and universities are sending students to study abroad in Israel. Over 700 American students have applied for the summer, fall and year-long programs at RIS for the upcoming 2005-06 year.
This summer, U.S. students have the option of learning Hebrew at the third annual Summer Ulpan in New York City. They also have access to two to eight week language programs in Biblical and Modern Hebrew, Yiddish, Arabic and Akkadian in Jerusalem, to Summer Courses in Middle East and Israel Studies, and to participate in archaeological digs around Israel. When RIS semester and year-long programs begin on Mount Scopus in August, American students will join hundreds of undergraduate and graduate students from more than 50 countries.
