Sample Bequest Provisions

The provisions in your will and/or revocable living trust to provide a charitable bequest to the American Friends of The Hebrew University, Inc.* will depend upon your individual philanthropic objectives and estate planning goals. Please review the following sample bequest clauses with your attorney:

Unrestricted General Legacy (Outright Bequest):

I bequeath to the American Firends of The Hebrew University, Inc., ("AFHU"), a New York State, not-for-profit corporation havings its principal offices at One Battery Park Plaza, 25th Floor, New York, NY, 10004, the sum of _____ ($ ) DOLLARS [or] a __ percent (__%) of my [residuary] estate to be used for its general charitable purposes.

Bequest for Student Scholarships/Specific Designation at The Hebrew University **:

I bequeath to the American Friends of The Hebrew University, Inc. (“AFHU”), a New York State, not-for-profit corporation having its principal offices at One Battery Park Plaza, 25th Floor, New York, NY, 10004, the sum of ___ ($ ) DOLLARS [or] a ___ percent (___%) of my [residuary] estate to be used to provide scholarships for students at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem for (insert specific designation here).

Option for Named Endowment for Specific Purpose **:

(___%) of my [residuary] estate to establish an Endowment Fund bearing the name(s) of ________________. The principal of the Endowment Fund will be held intact in perpetuity and only the net income thereof will be directed for the purpose of providing (insert specific designation here). The percentage rate of “net income” earmarked from the Endowment Fund will be determined on an annual basis by a resolution of the AFHU Board of Directors in accordance with their approved spending rule for such Endowment Funds.

Addendum Clause **:

In consideration of my bequest, I hereby request that the name(s) of [insert either your name or that of a loved one] be permanently inscribed on the appropriate Wall of Recognition at The Hebrew University, Jerusalem, Israel.

*The American Friends of The Hebrew University, Inc. is a qualified tax-exempt nonprofit corporation under Section 501(c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code; Federal Tax Identification Number: 13-1568923.

** Please note a copy of the Endowment Fund Agreement currently being utilized by the American Friends of The Hebrew University will be provided, should you wish to establish a named Endowment Fund by bequest.
