A MISSION TO ISRAEL FOR THE LEGAL COMMUNITY
Security and Civil Liberties: Under Siege Together
Mission Chairs: Ira Lee Sorkin & Martin Karlinsky

Join us in December of 2005 for a Leadership Mission to Israel, which will convene as an academic conference focusing on the balance of national security and civil liberties in the face of terrorism. Accompanying the mission as "scholars in residence" will be esteemed U.S. federal judges.

The mission itinerary includes:

Participation in sessions led by eminent American and Israeli jurists and legal scholars
The opportunity to observe proceedings of Israel's Supreme Court
An insider's look at an Israeli military tribunal
Visits to sites in and around Jerusalem that illustrate current
geopolitical realities
Although this mission has been designed with members of the legal profession in mind, its numerous activities are sure to engage and entertain non-lawyers as well.

EXODUS -- A NATION'S REBIRTH

This fall, join American Friends as we experience Israel and Cyprus in the company of outstanding Hebrew University scholars in a mission to Israel organzed by AFHU's National Office. Mission highlights will include:

A boat excursion from Cyprus to Haifa, accompanied by an HU scholar
Visits to historic sites in Israel including The Choma and Migdal Museum
at Kibbutz Hanita, Independence Hall in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem's Old
City and the Western Wall 
Dinners and receptions with Israeli dignitaries and government officials
At HU, an interdisciplinary panel discussion: "Hebrew University's
Role in Creating the Jewish State and Spearheading 21st Century

WOMEN'S MISSION TO ISRAEL
Mission Chairs: Marla Lerner Tanenbaum and Fay Ann Brodie

AFHU invites you to join American Friends in the Washington D.C. area for a Women's Mission to Israel, a unique opportunity to visit the The Hebrew University and to meet women faculty members who are among the world's finest in their fields. Participants will tour state-of-the-art facilities, attend lectures addressing Jewish history and mysticism, and visit some of Israel's most intriguing sites accompanied by university professors. Activities include:

An excursion to Safed, a center of Jewish mysticism for hundreds of years. Participants will visit the many unique synagogues and stroll through quaint art galleries and shops
VIP Visit to the Behai Gardens in Haifa with Hebrew University Professor Moshe Sharon
Walking tour through the Jewish Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem, including a guided visit to the Western Wall, the Herodian Mansions
and the Southern Wall excavations
Visit the ancient Qumran region, site of the discovery of the Dead Sea

A day-trip to the Vad Yashem Holocaust Memorial
An exploration of the newly excavated site of David's Palace, accompanied by an HU archaeologist now conducting the dig
