Mind, Body and Soul: A Women's Journey to Israel
November 15-22, 2005, AFHU's Mid-Atlantic Region hosted A Women's Journey to Israel, a unique visit to Israel and The Hebrew University that allowed American Friends from the Washington D.C. area to meet many of HU's outstanding women scholars and researchers. Participants toured Hebrew University campuses in Jerusalem and Rehovot, heard from professors addressing Jewish culture, history and politics; and explored some of Israel's most intriguing sites alongside university experts.
Chaired by Marla Lerner Tanenbaum and Fay-Ann Brodie, the journey's highlights included a historical tour of Safed, a center of Jewish mysticism for hundreds of years, with Professor Rachel EIior; a trip to the Tsippori archaeological dig with Professor Zev Weiss, and a walking tour of the Jewish Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem and the Southern Wall excavations.
Participants also visited the newly renovated Yad V'shem Holocaust Museum, which was introduced to the group by Professor Zeev Mankowitz.
