A festive evening honoring Harvey M. Krueger, vice-chairman of Lehman Brothers Inc. and a world-renowned figure in investment banking, was held on Nov. 13 at the Jerusalem International Convention Center under the auspices of The Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the Israel Friends Association. The event, which attracted 800 participants, honored Mr. Krueger for his significant contributions over the years to the development of the Israeli economy and The Hebrew University.

Among those in attendance were leading figures in Israeli government, the business sector, the academic community and financial circles, including Finance Minister and former Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, Industry and Trade Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, former Prime Minister Ehud Barak, Labor Party leader and former Prime Minister Shimon Peres, former Finance Minister Avraham "Baiga" Shochat, former Tel Aviv Mayor Shlomo Lahat, Teva Pharmaceuticals chairman Eli Hurvitz, and Supreme Court Justice Mishael Cheshin. Also in attendance were senior executives from Israel's high-tech industry.

Leading the Hebrew University representation were Yigal Arnon, chairman of the Board of Governors; Prof. Menachem Magidor, president; and Avi Armoni, vice-president for external affairs, in addition to Deans of faculties and other senior faculty members. Members of the university's Board of Governors Executive Committee were also in attendance.

A specially produced video focusing on Mr. Krueger and his many activities was shown. Avi Oron, The Director of the Israel Friends of the University, presented a bust of Krueger to the honoree, and President Magidor presented a gift to Krueger's wife, Connie. Arnon, Netanyahu, Peres and others paid numerous tributes to Krueger for his dedication to Israel and to The Hebrew University.

For the past 45 years, Harvey Krueger and Lehman Brothers have been responsible for most of the foreign capital raised for private industry and government bodies in Israel. Krueger has also, for many years, been an untiring leading figure of the Hebrew University and its American Friends organization, contributing of his personal funds and raising substantial amounts from others to further the development of the university's teaching and research programs. Krueger is a past chairman of the Board of Governors of the University and a past president of the American Friends of the Hebrew University. He continues to act today in a leadership role on behalf of the university.

Proceeds derived from the tribute to Krueger will be used for the Harvey M. Krueger Nanotechnology Center on the Edmond J. Safra Campus of The Hebrew University at Givat Ram. The center encompasses scientists from the realms of physics, chemistry, medicine, materials science, life sciences and other fields.
