ALBERT EINSTEIN LEGACY AT THE HEBREW UNIVERSITY
The person whose name is synonymous with genius, Time Magazine's Man of the Century, bequeathed his intellectual legacy to The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. From Albert Einstein's correspondence with the most influential physicists and intellectuals of the 20th century to his literary estate, this collection of 45,000 documents is permanently held by Israel's preeminent institution of higher learning and research.
To Hebrew University Past President and Physics Professor Hanoch Gutfreund, The Albert Einstein Archives, which have been housed at the Jewish National and University Library for the past 23 years, are a cultural asset of universal importance for humanity, Israel and the Jewish people.
"The archives represent the intellectual and personal record of a creative genius whose thinking profoundly changed our perception of the universe" Gutfruend stated. "The preservation of his papers affords a most fitting means of maintaining his legacy, shedding light on Einstein's scientific work, his political activities and his private life."
A founder of The Hebrew University and member of its Board of Governors, Einstein was dedicated to establishing a world-class university that would foster the well being of an emerging Jewish state. Reflective of this vision, today's Hebrew University faculty and students excel in such areas as computer science and engineering, biotechnology, neural computation and nanotechnology.
