Hebrew University students participate in
leadership visit to the U.S

Thank you! AFHU expresses sincere appreciation to the following board members and friends for graciously hosting students during their week in Manhattan:
Hebrew University Atidim student Rita Golshtain was the general coordinator of the NYC week. As she explained, "Atid is the Hebrew word for future. Atidim (Futures) is the name of a breakthrough project designed to secure the future of Israel by enabling a larger segment of the population to achieve personal goals and thereby contribute to the ongoing growth, development and progress of our liberal democracy. Partners and funding for our program have come from Israel's civil service commission, the Prime Minister's Office and from various public and private donors. Our Atidim program at The Hebrew University, Cadets for the Public Service, aims at improving the public sector in general through the integration of top students who have undergone goal-oriented academic studies and training in public administration."
In addition to individual majors, the Atidim program course of study concentrates on developing leadership skills and tools, to qualify and empower graduates for key positions in public service. During the second and third years of training, students go through internships in a variety of governmental agencies to learn the inner workings of institutions and to practice and apply their theoretical knowledge in the real world. Internships have been in the Ministries of Construction, Education, Environment, Finance, Foreign Trade, Health, Human Resources, Internal Affairs, Industry, Justice, Labor, Tourism, Trade and Transport; as well as in the Prime Minister's Office; The Jewish Agency; Civil Service Commission; National Insurance Institute (Israel's Social Security); Israel Anti-Trust Authority; and in the Municipalities of Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.
More than 25 students spent September in the U.S. to see government and business structures, alternative approaches to public service and ways of dealing with policy dilemmas. Their journey began in Washington, D.C., continued in Atlanta, Columbus/Cleveland, and concluded in New York City. At each stop, they also met with the Jewish community to better understand its structure and its importance in American and Israeli life.
