  Annual Leadership Educational Forum(ALEF) 2008

AFHU’s Southeast Region hosted the 6th Annual Leadership Educational Forum (ALEF) at the Four Seasons Resort in Palm Beach. The all day conference was attended by both local AFHU supporters and national board members.

The conference opened with the morning’s keynote speaker, Pulitzer Prize winning journalist and author Ron Suskind, who addressed the audience on “The Role of the U.S. in an Angry World. Are We on the Right Path?” Following the breakfast, Professor Dan Gazit presented an informative session on “Medical Research: Repairing and Rejuvenating the Human Body”.

Prof. Hanoch Gutfreund and Walter Isaacson, best selling author of Albert Einstein: His Life and Universe jointly led a session entitled “In the Footsteps of Hebrew University Founders: Albert Einstein’s Multidimensional Vision.” This topic reflected HU’s celebration in 2008 of the 90th Anniversary of The Hebrew University of Jerusalem’s Cornerstone Laying.

A conference highlight was the thought provoking Panel Discussion that addressed the questions, “more than six years after 9/11, five years into the never ending Afghan war and four years after Sadaam Hussein’s downfall – where do we stand and what should we be looking for?” Amb. Carmi Gillon, Amb. Efraim Halevy, Amb. Cofer Black, Ron Suskind and Amb. William Brown discussed these modern challenges

The conference concluded with Hebrew University graduate and Israel’s Ambassador to the United States, Sallai Meridor’s stirring keynote address at the luncheon.
