    Research at Hebrew University is brilliant, creative, meticulous, reliable and classic.

    • One-hundred research centers and over 4,000 ongoing research projects
    • Nearly 30% of research conducted at HU is eventually commercialized within the high-tech industry
    • HU ties with Oxford University in second place in the number of new European Research Council (ERC) grants; eleven young faculty members received these awards, while ten of their colleagues were awarded ERC advanced grants.

    Innovations: A Sampling

    • Exelon® - FDA-approved drug for treating Alzheimer’s disease and dementia
    • Doxil® - An anti-cancer drug with an innovative delivery system
    • Periochip® - A sustained release delivery system for treatment of periodontal diseases
    • SBT (Skeletal Bio-Therapy) Ltd. - Regenerates cartilage, tendon and ligament tissue
    • EyeQ Chip - A processing system that analyzes signals from car-mounted cameras to warn drivers of potential road hazards developed by MobilEye
    • Video Synopsis Technology - a proprietary image-processing technology that creates a summary of original full length surveillance video. The synopsis is made possible by simultaneously presenting multiple objects, events and activities that occurred at different times. The technology is licensed to Israeli start-up BriefCam.
    • BioCancell Therapeutics, Inc. developed a patient-oriented, targeted therapy for diagnosis and treatment of many types of cancer
    • Cherry tomatoes and long shelf-life tomatoes — the world’s most popular cocktail hybrids that revolutionized the fresh market industry

    Licensing: Yissum promotes the transfer of Hebrew University technology for the benefit of society, while maximizing returns to support research, education and scientific excellence. Yissum ranks among the top technology transfer companies in the world. It has registered over 6000 patents for more than 1,750 inventions (132 in 2009 alone), licensed out 480 technologies and has created 68 spin-off companies. Approximately 30% of patents have led to products worth over two billion dollars in annual sales, placing HU among the top 15 universities worldwide.
