The Hebrew University’s neuroscience community has won worldwide recognition as a source of ground-breaking research. The breadth of disciplines drawn upon – the biological, chemical, physical and social sciences, as well as the humanities – provides a broad and deep dimension to Hebrew University brain research. In fact, Hebrew University neuroscientists have already taken remarkable strides towards treating and curing diseases, through a drug (Exelon) developed to treat symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease, a treatment proven to ameliorate the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease, and advances in artificial limb control.
Israel's largest institute for brain research has recently been launched at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, initiated by the Edmond J. Safra Philanthropic Foundation. This newly equipped center will enable the university to be ranked among the top five worldwide institutions in brain research. Scientists will pursue five different cooperative fields of brain research:
