ICNC

The Interdisciplinary Center for Neural Computation (ICNC)

The award-winning ICNC, one of the first of its kind, is cited by the European Union as a top facility. The ICNC centralizes the work of renowned scientists who take a multidisciplinary approach to revealing the principles underlying the brain’s immense powers of perception, thought and motor control. Their findings are used to develop intelligent artificial devices and treat disease.

Accomplishments Include:

  • Restoring movement to paralyzed limbs through the Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) technique, by implanting electrical devices in the brain
  • Developing capabilities to replace parts of living brains, build artificial brains and use our own brains more efficiently
  • New imaging techniques for mapping brain areas involved in specific cognitive functions, eliminating the need for invasive surgical procedures
  • Constructing revolutionary hardware for human speech and handwriting recognition
