President of the State of Israel Shimon Peres is to visit the Hebrew University of Jerusalem's Robert H. Smith Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Environment in Rehovot on Thursday, February 18, to learn about how the University is working to alleviate hunger worldwide and its 'Feeding the World' campaign.
During the visit, he will meet with the Dean of the Faculty Prof. Ronnie Friedman to discuss how the Faculty's researchers are combating issues of hunger around the world. He will then meet with Hebrew University researchers Prof. Yehoshua Saranga (on the potential of wheat in alleviating hunger), Prof. Shahal Abbo (on Hummous: Quality food for the hungry world) and Prof. Berta Sivan (on fish as an accessible source of protein in Africa).
President Peres will also visit a water treatment laboratory where he will learn about innovative water treatment technologies from Prof. Avner Adin and Prof. Benny Chefetz; and will take a tour of the greenhouse handling water-saving plants and crops that can grow in arid regions.
